A Neoclassical Alabaster Chandelier (AL27)

Carved from a single piece of pale pink alabaster with some charcoal mineral veining, the light features a wreath of laurel leaves crowning the upper rim, curved and carved banding and ormolu fittings and finial.

Materials & Techniques Notes: Although pastel pink and rose toned alabaster are not tones found in nature, they were a period treatment produced by soaking the stone in a bath of crushed beets.   Similarly, light blue or teal tones were also produced at the time, by employing a blueberry bath.
